Why does it need to be changed? 
· Brake fluid must withstand operating temperatures of between -20°C and up to 230°C

How often should it be changed?
· Because it absorbs moisture over time, brake fluid must be replaced at year 3 and every 2 years after that irrespective of mileage.

What happens if it is not changed? 
· If too much moisture builds up, the brake fluid can actually freeze on a cold day or even boil while the brakes are being used. · This seriously affects braking performance and can cause the braking system to fail

Why does the cam-belt need to be changed?  

The cam-belt is one of the hardest working components in your engine. · A rubber-toothed belt drives major parts of the engine and keeps everything synchronized

How often should they be changed? 

Your cam-belt needs changing when it reaches the age or mileage limit recommended by Volkswagen Ireland. · This is generally 4 years, however for higher mileage drivers you may need to change it sooner

What happens if it the cam-belt kit is not changed? · The belt can go slack, causing it to snap or jump, this can cause severe damage inside the engine. The vehicle will breakdown and it could cost you several thousand euro to repair.

Why do my tyres need checking? •

At the right pressure, the compound rubber and scientifically cut thread patterns add to your vehicles handling and comfort. • Too much wear will affect grip and safety, as your car will become harder to handle. Incorrect tyre pressures and /or low, uneven tyre wear will also increase stopping distances in wet conditions. 

How often do they need to be checked? •

It depends on the type of tyre, your mileage, or the kinds of driving you do. • The legal limit of wear for tyre thread is 1.6mm, compared to a new tyre thread of approx 8mm. • However the more thread left on the tyre the better, so we would recommend you change them before reaching the legal limit.

What happens if it they are not changed? •

 If your tyre thread is below the legal minimum, your car wont pass an NCT, your insurance could be invalidated, and you could be fined and get points on your licence. • On wet roads, the braking distance can be doubled with worn tyres and risks of aquaplaning are highly increased.

Why does it need to be refreshed or serviced? 
Your Air-conditioning system can contain bacterial and fungal contaminations. Having a refresh is an effective and safe treatment that disinfects the evaporator and air ducts. What's more over time the system will lose some of its gas, unless it's replaced your system will be less efficient at keeping you cool and refreshed.

What do we do? 
During a full Air-conditioning service our technicians drain and re-charge the system, check hoses, filters, belts, and ensure the compressor and condenser are working correctly. When refreshing your system we use an ultrasonic anti-bacterial treatment that eliminates all forms of contamination

Why do they need to be replaced?

· Spark Plugs operate in an extreme environment of high temperatures and high pressures. Over time they naturally degrade and become less efficient

What happens if they're not replaced? · 

A powerful electrical spark is required to ignite the fuel & air mixture in your engine. · If a spark plug is in operation for too long it becomes less able to ignite this mixture effectively, leading to an inefficient engine and lack of performance. This can lead to increased fuel consumption and potential damage and premature wear of the engine and catalytic converter.

Why does it need to be replaced? · 

An engines air filter removes dirt & dust from the air entering the engine, and just like your vacuum cleaner it needs to be cleaned and replaced to maintain its functionality. 

How often should it be replaced? · 

Your air filter needs changing usually only every 60,000kms, or 4 years 

What happens if it is not replaced? · 

Fresh clean air is vital for your Volkswagens engine to perform efficiently. Failure to replace the air filter when required will lead to a drop in performance. Your MPG will suffer, and your engine will not operate as effectively as it could as it tries to breathe through a dirty filter.

Why does it need to be replaced? · 

An engines fuel filter removes dirt, rust, solids and other contaminants from the fuel entering the engine and could become blocked if not serviced.

What happens if it is not replaced? · 

Fresh clean air is vital for you and your passenger's safety & comfort. Failure to replace the pollen filter when required will lead the cabin air becoming stuffy and windows fogging up on damp days and great discomfort for allergy sufferers. Unpleasant odours can develop as moulds & fungus can grow on internal components of the ventilation system

Why do they need changing ?

It is recommended that you change your wiper blades every 6-12 months. ... Everyday use, wear and tear, UV rays,  can cause your wipers blades to deteriorate. They can become brittle, crack and even tear and permanently damage the windscreen

What happens if not replaced? · 

Your visibility and comfort are restricted, You risk and accident like the one shown in the picture here 

Why do my shock absorbers need replacing? • 

Shock absorbers use hydraulic fluid and gas to dampen the rebound of the suspension springs when you go over a bump or hole. • Without shock absorbers, your car would bounce around and be hard to control. • A good shock absorber also prolongs the life of other suspension parts and drive systems such as bushings, drive shafts, bearings, mountings, linkages, tyres and springs.

 
How often should shock absorbers be replaced? • 

There is no set change interval as their life is determined by the condition of roads in your individual area, but we check them at every service and NCT test to make sure they are doing their job. 

What happens if they are not replaced? • 

If your shock absorbers fail, your car will be very unstable and difficult to drive. • A worn or leaking shock absorber can affect the safety of your braking and handling.  Lengthening of the braking distance by up to 20% when the wheels are not securely forced onto the road surface, uncontrolled skidding can occur during an emergency braking manoeuvre. • Contact with the road surface is lost. • Even from a very low speed, the tyres start to aquaplane.

Why does my battery need replacing? · 

When a battery is fully charged, it supplies approx 12.6 Volts. If the charge falls to 12.0 volts, the power it supplies drops from 100% to approx 25%. · A battery's efficiency is also temperature dependant and when cold, conductivity is reduced. · If your battery is not holding it has charge and we have a cold snap, it may cause your Volkswagen not to start.

 
How often should it be checked? · 

The battery is so important it should be checked at every service and replaced usually after at least every 4 to 6 years. 
 

What happens if I do not replace it? · 

Sludge builds up in the bottom of the case and can short the cell out. Deep discharges, heat, vibration, over charging, under charging or non-use, all accelerate aging. · Ultimately if not replaced, the battery will fail, which means eventually your car wont start.

Why do brake pads & discs need checking? • 

When you brake, the circular brake disc that rotates with the wheels is gripped by brake pads, causing the car to slow down. • Both the disc and the pads are subject to wear and corrosion, so it is important they be checked regularly for your safety. • The brake pads transfer the braking torque to the brake discs and from there via the wheels to the tyres contact with the road. • During the process, kinetic energy is transformed into heat. 

How often should they be changed? • 

There is no set change interval but they should be checked at least once a year. • Even if your annual mileage is low, your brakes should be checked yearly as they are still subject to corrosion. 

What happens if it they are not changed? • 

If your brakes are not maintained regularly you will not be able to brake so efficiently. • As well as reduced stopping power, worn or corroded brake parts can cause the car to vibrate and become noisy. • Significantly compromised road safety. • Seriously endangering other road users/extremely high risk of accidents. • In a worst-case scenario, no braking power.
